The Pomegranate originated in the Persian region, which contains modern day Iran, Azerbaijan Georgia, and Armenia, among others, and has been grown in the Mediterranean for thousands of years. Remains of the skins have been found at archaeological sites, dating as far back as 1000 B.C. Groves of pomegranate trees exist near ancient villages and settlements. This truly is an ancient fruit and it has been enjoyed by humans for millennium.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The pomegranate is strange looking to people who live in lands where it is a non native fruit. The first time that they behold this strange orb, they don’t know what to do with it. The outer skin is rough and leathery, but with an appealing red color. Not knowing what lies within, they might cut it open the wrong way and then be shocked to see that it “bleeds” like a living creature. The best way that they can enjoy this unique fruit is by making a juice available on its own, or combining it with other juices.
For years now, Pomegranate Juice has been used by people wishing to maintain a healthy immune system. This fruit is known for its high levels of antioxidants, which are the foundation for a very healthy body. The amount of vitamin C that can be found in a single pomegranate is 20 times that of an orange. People who consume vitamin C daily have a 60 to 80 percent higher chance of avoiding the development of illnesses such as strokes, heart disease, and cancer.
Colon cancer is one of the most prevalent killers in America, causing over 37,000 deaths each year. According to a recent study, Pomegranate Juice could be the most important preventative action for individuals at risk of developing this particular type of cancer. Scientists reached this conclusion after testing the ” Pomegranate” on mice. The study showed that the mice who drank the pomegranate juice had a 60 percent decrease in the risk of developing colon cancer as compared to the mice that weren’t given the juice.
Pomegranates are also most effective in reducing the risk of prostate cancer. A recent study of 50,000 men over a period of 12 years found that those who consumed the most pomegranates have had a 48 percent decrease in the chance of developing this form of cancer as compared to men who consumed the least. Of course, the exact cause of the decreased risk isn’t known. It is possible that the antioxidant properties of pomegranates affect the development of tumors in various parts of the prostate.
The research on men also shows that this fruit can decrease the chance of developing lung cancer as well. One of the mechanisms involved in this cancer is the growth of tumors that contain elements of DNA. Since the elements of DNA are what cause cancer to begin in the first place, the consumption of pomegranate juice may be a simple way to prevent their development.
There are many other health benefits of pomegranate juice, and many more studies are being conducted. In the future, more and more fruits will be examined, and shown to contain antioxidants that can help us fight all types of diseases, including cancer and cardiovascular disease.
